Until now, smokers have had to take a wait-and-see approach when it comes to detecting lung cancer. A chest X-ray isn’t sensitive enough to catch cancer early, so most doctors don’t test for it at all. But a new review of studies published in JAMA suggests there’s a new way to screen. Researchers looked at 21 studies weighing the benefits and harms of low-dose computerized tomography (LDCT) screening for lung cancer, the leading cause of cancer death. Among 53,454 participants enrolled in the studies, LDCT screening resulted in significantly fewer lung cancer deaths. (Click here for .)
