Get Out And Party With Mamma Mia!

    Sunday, September 9, 2012, 8:01 AM [General]

Say you're Donna Sheridan, a single woman, living on the Greek aisle of Kalokaini, owner of an inn and mother of one 20-yaer-old daughter. You've got three different men, all believing they are the girl's father, and supporting her in absentia. Daughter wants to get married, and she wants a father to 'give her away'. In her search for her true Dad, she discovers Mom's diary from more than 20 years ago, and voila! The plot goes deliriously on from there. When Sophie tracks down the three possible candidates and invites them to her wedding, without her mother's knowledge,Apple's Retina Display The Good, The Bad, and the, the fun really begins. This show is not only hysterically funny, but also gloriously enhanced by the music of ABBA, the famed Swedish pop group. Music and action are interwoven in an irresistible presentation, with songs that almost describe the progression of events. From "I Have a Dream" (when Sophie is imagining her real father leading her down the aisle) to "Dancing Queen" (when Donna, the "widow", is doing a reprise of her days with Donna and the Dynamos in England, more than 20 years ago.) Mamma Mia! actually originates from ABBA's 1975 hit of the same name, and many of the other numbers from that release comprise the heat and the heart of both the movie and the stage production. As a note, ABBA is an acronym for the first names of the four band members: Agnetha, Bjorn, Benny and Anni-Frid. The group was involved in the entire production of Mamma Mia! from start to finish, not only composing the score but even appearing in cameo roles in the movie. The musical has been touring the world to packed theatres,Beijing Sensual Massage, and is still going strong. When the stage musical was turned into a movie, it topped even Titanic, grossing more than any other film in the U.K., and the critics called it "the most successful Hollywood musical of all time." The film's success was due, in no small part, to the dynamic music of ABBA. Benny Andersson also wrote several additional songs for the movie, beijing massage, and he and Bjorn Ulvaeus are credited as co-producers, along with Phyllida Lloyd, Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson. The movie Mamma Mia! stars Meryl Streep as Donna Sheridan, the effervescent single mother with secrets. Amanda Seyfried is her daughter Sophie, about to be married and yearning for a real Dad to give her away. The three candidates for fatherhood (all of whom have been unwittingly supporting the same 'daughter') show up for the wedding and are drawn into the conspiracy when they meet Sophie and discover Donna's deception. Pierce Brosnan plays Sam Carmichael, an Irish architect from New York. Stellan Skarsgard is Bill Anderson, Swedish rover and writer, and Colin Firth is Harry Bright, a British banker. Everyone in Mamma Mia! has a lot of fun, and so does the audience. Filmed mainly around Kastani beach on the Greek island of Skopelos, the background is delightful, and so is the story. Secrets are revealed, and love blooms in all sorts of unexpected places. There is plenty of drama, but it is the high spirited and lighthearted kind of drama, with some very pleasing performances by cast members, and of course the music to please just about everyone! Underscored by such familiar and immensely popular songs such as "Winner Takes It All", "Super Trouper" and "Thank You For the Music", the comedy/drama moves right along and carries the viewer right along with it, dancing and singing all the way. There is even a bit part for Benny Anderson and Bjorn Vulvae's, as a piano player and a Greek god, respectively. Mamma Mia! is an experience to enjoy, whether you catch the stage production or the movie. It is simply great entertainment, with no regrets to be found anywhere!
