Morocco is quickly becoming one of the highlights of travel in North Africa. However, I am questioned on a regular basis whether Morocco offers tours that will suit the tastes of teenagers. I decided to ask my daughter to write her feelings about her tour to Morocco and this is what she said?
As we began our tour to Morocco, I was wondering if this would be a place that I would enjoy. Being a 14 year old girl, I was curious if this country was just full of old historical places or if there was something that would excite me. My eyes were opened to the wonderful country of Morocco and the amazing places to visit.
After my tour to Morocco, I would have to say that the ultimate place to visit is the Sahara desert. We were met in Erfoud by our 4x4; heading out across the rocky black desert to the giant sand dunes. Our driver, dressed in his traditional garb, took us straight across the barren land to the Dunes of Erg Chebbi. We felt like we were driving in no-man land; all of a sudden the dunes appeared out of nowhere. Slowly rising from the horizon were the great dunes; the giant mountains made of sand.
When we finally arrived at the edge of the sand, we found our hotel built right on the edge of the dunes. The sand literally was blowing in the front door. Our family was lucky to have a place with a swimming pool. We spent the afternoon swimming at the pool and the dunes. We tried out the sand board that they provided at the little auberge. This was one of the highlights of my trip. We found a snow board just outside the hotel and then headed out to the tallest dune that we could find! We were ready to go! You can fly down the dunes or can just watch the others do it.
Later during the day we had a cup of mint tea and peanuts while enjoying the beautiful view of the massive sand dunes. In the late afternoon, we loaded up the camels and set out into the dunes to an oasis in the middle of the desert. The trek was about two hours long, but it is worth it. We stopped to watch the sunset and then finished the trek into the Oasis. Our Berber tent, made of camel hair, was tucked down at the base of one of the largest dune. We enjoy a lovely meal out under the stars prepared by our camel guides. We then enjoyed the night in our tent and some decide to sleep under the bright desert stars. In the morning we woke up early for breakfast on the dunes and return to your hotel by camel. It was absolutely amazing.
Another thing that I really enjoyed was our tour in the Medina of Fes, which is the walled old city. We started start out at the famous Blue gate and then set off down on the Tala Kabera, which means big street in Arabic. It was like nothing I had ever seen. We saw many colorful carpets, metal work, spices and pottery. Everything that we saw was hand crafted and absolutely stunning with color. I loved going down into the Atarian,Portable Dvd Player For Your Automobile - Methods, which is the heart of the medina. The Atrian is filled with bead shops, thread,Beijing Massage, and colorful jalabas, which is the traditional Moroccan dress.
From there we headed down this back alley-way and found ourselves in a huge open square which is known as the henna souk. This place was well-known as a place that sells henna (dye) and pottery. In the middle of the square was a huge tree that has many antique things around it. The pottery in the henna souk is painted mostly with the traditional designs and colors of fez, beijing massage service, which are blue and white. When we were done in the henna souks, we moved on to our next location which was found in a small alley and through a small wooden door. All of a sudden, we found ourselves in a huge house with looms set up and men working to make beautuful scarves, curtains or bedspreads. The men were busy working their hands and feet in a steady beat making the masterpieces, thread by thread. Slowly the simple silk threads make beautiful tapestries with silver and gold thread woven in them. It is an incredible sight to see.
Being a teenage girl, I loved the Berber pharmacy. The shop was a spice shop full of medicine, lotions, spices for cooking, make-up and natural perfume made from flowers. The shop owner greeted us with a huge smile and he welcomed us in. We sat down and watched as he showed us the different items. He showered us with perfumes and then asked for a volunteer; I was chosen. He put some kohl, the Arab eyeliner, on my eyes making me look like a traditional lady. When I visited the spices shop, I was smiling the whole time and I fully enjoyed myself. The tour was fabulous and I enjoyed the entire time.
So, as you can see from this teenage girl, there is plenty of fun and many exciting things to do on your tour to Morocco. Bring the entire family and experience Morocco!
