Die Forscher nehmen an, dass die Tiere ihren ausgereiften Tastsinn nutzen, um schnell zwischen im Wasser treibenden Pflanzenresten und Essbarem unterscheiden zu können. Dadurch ergibt sich nur ein sehr kurzes Zeitfenster für Korrekturen, häufig nur wenige Minuten. Im schlimmsten Fall werde das Geld fast zeitgleich bei dem einen Konto abgebucht und dem anderen Konto gutgeschrieben.
